Love, understanding, and hate are a few things all twin siblings feel for each other. I have a twin sister. Her name is Sierra. Growing up, we were always “SkylerAndSierra.” Never just Skyler, never just Sierra. Maybe that’s why we fought so much when we were younger. We weren’t really fighting each other, just the mold everyone tried to squeeze us into.

Grown Together serves to give both my sister and I personal identities while still celebrating our lives as twins. By using a documentary style of photography, I was able to portray my sister and I as we are in our everyday lives, giving the viewer a more intimate and genuine experience. To further this documentary approach, I was very intentional with the lighting that I employed. I primarily used either natural lighting or light sources that my sister and I already had in the setting, such as lamps, phones, or the television.

The candid nature of this body of work helps the viewer to step into and experience the lives of me and my sister, leading them to reflect on their own lives and familial relationships, even if they do not have a twin sibling. Through this reflection, viewers will carry with them a truer understanding of how they interact with their own families, leading them to become more caring and understanding in their relationships.
